Joining RAC was one of the best decisions I’ve made in the latter part of my appraisal career. Beyond the networking aspect, it has given me access to an exceptional group of residential appraisers from across the country—professionals with a depth of knowledge and experience that is difficult to find elsewhere. Having the ability to consult with and learn from appraisers operating at such a high level has been incredibly valuable both professionally and personally.
RAC has also directly benefited my business. Recently, a new high-end residential client contacted me to ask if I would be interested in working with them. One of my first questions was, “Where did you get my name?” Their response was simple: they specifically seek out RAC members because of the professionalism, expertise, and consistency they have experienced with RAC appraisers in other markets.
To me, that says a lot about the reputation RAC has built. Being part of this organization has not only allowed me to connect with some of the best professionals in our industry, but it has also opened doors to opportunities and clientele I likely would not have otherwise encountered.

The value I find in being a member of Relocation Appraisers and Consultants first and foremost, is the relationships built with the members. They are simply a great group of people. You will not find a more dedicated group of appraisers who believe in quality work and professional service. I would highly recommend joining RAC to any appraiser looking to build their business portfolio.

Being a member of RAC brings a lot of real-world value, especially when it comes to the people you get access to. The group is made up of experienced professionals from a variety of markets, including many who specialize in high-end and luxury residential properties. That alone makes it a great resource when you are dealing with more complex assignments or just want a better read on how different segments of the market are performing.
One of the biggest advantages is the ability to connect with others who are working on similar types of properties, particularly in the luxury space where things are rarely straightforward. Having a network of people you can reach out to for input, perspective, or even just a sanity check can make a big difference..
Beyond that, RAC is a strong networking platform. It is not just about formal meetings it is the ongoing conversations, relationships, and connections that develop over time. Those relationships can lead to referrals, collaboration, and a deeper understanding of how different markets operate. Overall, it is a solid way to stay connected, continue learning, and strengthen your position within the profession.

“Unlike other much larger organizations, RAC is small but very powerful. The size allows all RAC members to get to know 100% of the other members if they so choose. You will find that some of the sharpest and most innovative appraisers belong to RAC. I have never been told “I don’t have time” by another RAC member when I have reached out for help. A few years ago, I was lucky enough to be selected to assemble and lead a team of appraisers in a very large lawsuit with cases that spanned the country. My “go to” database was the RAC directory. Getting to read those reports and discuss the individual properties with RAC appraisers all over the country was equivalent of getting a graduate degree. Certainly not all RAC appraisers specialize in litigation work but if that is in your future, you need to look into RAC!!”

“For me, it’s the networking with peers who are doing work beyond traditional lender work. When I started in this profession, I only dealt with lenders and AMCs. However, to be successful in this profession, you have to expand your client base and skillset. My good friend and peer, Craig Gilbert, reached out and asked if I would like to be a member of RAC. RAC is more than just relocation work. There are complex assignments that go beyond the traditional lender/AMC appraisal. There are so many opportunities out here in this profession if one just looks beyond lender/AMC work.”

“As a residential valuation consultant and expert witness, the training, education, and collaboration from other RAC members has been invaluable to my career over the years. With a focus on real analysis and because of the excellent training provided by the organization, both of which put me in a position to provide supportable appraisals and elevated my skills as an expert witness.”

Back in 2023 I was watching the appraiser E-Learning podcast that featured RAC member and back then current Vice President Lisa Meinczinger-Gulden. Lisa was promoting RAC for not only it's Relocation side but also for complex assignments along with litigation support and review work. She had mentioned their upcoming annual conference in October and I reached out to ask if I could attend even though I was not a member and she said absolutely.
Fast forward and not only did I attend the 2023 conference but also attended the 2024 and 2025 conference. I ended up submitting my application and became a new member in October 2025. I am not a Relocation appraiser but do complete larger luxury property appraisals along with custom horse properties and vacant land acreage.
What I truly like about RAC are it's members, who were very welcoming to a new individual to RAC. This smaller group of appraisers are truly some of the most knowledgeable and well respected appraisers in the industry. You can always reach out to any RAC member/appraiser with questions if your working on a complex appraisal or looking for feedback. RAC appraisers uphold the appraisal industry in high regard and truly advocate the credentials and professionalism a RAC appraiser provides.
